I've tried vacuuming without the beater bar, but found that the only thing that really removes the constant shedding is a sticky tape roller, like what you use to keep animal and lint off your clothes. The shed fibers make great big (larger than a quarter-size) clumps of teal/aqua fibers which not only make the carpet look untidy, but also detach and create "fiber-bunnies" on the tile flooring. Seriously, I have to sticky roller it every other day. So, if I had little children or an animal that might swallow these, I'd have to return the carpet. Luckily I don't.
