It is a base layer crew with moisture wicking, thermal protection and recycled polyester and spandex. It is sure to keep you warm under your layers. I would recommend going a size down so that the thermal is tight fitting but I would recommend this thermal to any male.

This base layer has been a solid addition to my husband's winter wardrobe. The quality feels good-soft and lightweight but still warm enough for layering without adding bulk. It's also nice that the fabric is stretchy and moves well with him, making it super comfortable for everyday wear or outdoor activities. It also fits true to size; my husband is 5'10” and typically wears a large in T-shirts because he likes them roomy and oversized, but otherwise fits into a medium for a more fitted look. The large in this top fit perfectly considering how he likes them-roomy enough to feel comfortable without being baggy. Overall, I think it's a good option for a functional base layer that doesn't break the bank.
