Better Homes & Gardens-Collins Cream Stoneware Round Dinner Bowl

I like the plate bowls because they have multiple uses. They are large enough for meals, that are not runny. The plate bowls are about 10 inches in diameter, so a nice sized plate with a 1 inch lip around the edge. Good for spaghetti, stews, or main dishes and sides that utilize the lip so you don't have to chase food around a plate. They are made of stoneware, so they are a little heavy. Care needs to be taken when handling or washing because they could chip. Given that, the price made them a great buy, and delivery was fast. We use them for practically every meal.

BROKEN PASTA BOWLS because they were not adequately prepped for shipment, which was from my closest no-bridge-toll Walmart store about 75 minutes north with a straight fairly flat freeway ride here within two days of my order. Stacked five bowls with brown stretchy-cut packing paper wrapped around stack, but nothing between stacked easily-shattered ceramic bowls with unfinished (unglazed terra cotta) bottoms in a rather flimsy shipping box. Obviously BAD idea. One bowl highly shattered (sharp with any chips all over the place, hard to clean up) within EACH of two stacks of five bowls, so TWO SHATTERED bowls. Surprised most of the didn't shatter. When delivery throws things around close to winter holidays, maybe they all would've shattered! Thank you to other reviewers who posted reviews mentioning the same silly problem because I ordered a couple extra bowls in case many broke and there were not enough replacements to be found. (I've had similar ceramic ware by Mikasa, and they definitely break over time with frequent use.) Luckily, not expensive pricing. Not cheesy-looking. Between matte and glossy. Excellent proportions, dimensions. Very impressed. They look to be of incredible quality, as one might expect from Good Housekeeping, even after all these decades--but you can't tell how just how high-quality they look by the photos. (Looks Denby pottery classy, but unclear how easily these will break with regular use. They even sound a bit brittle . . . that terra cotta stacking sound.) Customer Service, first via AI which didn't offer easy options (didn't want to wrap the broken hazardous mess with dozens of chipped pieces which could leak out of box, print label, pkg up for mailing, drive to drop-off designation) ... AI wasn't the easiest to access either--but once i spoke with a cordial customer service rep, things seemed better. Told her to pass the word to wrap better . . . at least i tried to help everyone involved out . . . I've had nightmare quality issues when Walmart uses third-party vendors directly shipping (from their garages or something), so this was a more welcome prob. I guess.
