got tired of going out to my flower beds only to see them dug up by the cats and squirrels. got it all in shape and bought these mats. easy to cut and manipulate. I'm not putting mulch on mine because I have a lot of leaves in the fall. but they honestly look fine just like they are, bare. I didn't want to use chemicals or noise making devices that flash lights. this seems the most practical and I believe it is. there's nowhere for the cats and squirrels to access the soil now!! I really wish I got a few more for the dollar, but I literally had no waste
