Grooming for Greatness was orchestrated as a workshop initially to address the unmet needs of NAACP Youth Council members, who were not being counseled regarding college admissions by high school guidance counselors at their respective high schools in the city of Indianapolis. It was shocking to know that many scholarly young people were being locked out of such an important pivotal step in their lives. Therefore the book evolved as an educational resource of information for high school youth seriously concerned about going to college. It is also a how-to book for parents to empower their children with important criteria during middle and high school that will impact college admissions, including scholarship preparation and submission, scholastic achievement testing, essay writing techniques, and methods linked to successful college application submission and acceptance.
