Pedro Paramo is the only novel published by the Mexican writer Juan Rulfo. However, this masterpiece's rich and haunting qualities have exerted a significant shaping influence on much Latn fiction since it first appeared in 1955. This volume - written in Spanish language text by Mexican and Scandinavian scholars - collects six readings and analyses of the novel. The contributions address a range of original issues, including Rulfo's re-writings of the manuscript, the influence of Scandinavian literature on his work, the difficulties of translating his universe into Danish, and the religious and indigenous aspects inherent in his novel.
