Patch material different than toy

Bought the patch kit to repair pool float. The vinyl of the float is very stretchy, the patch kit is not. So while the patch sticks well, the float expands and contracts according to heat which can cause the patch to crinkle. Probably work well on objects that are not so stretchy.
