Is it really gold over silver?

The product states the it is 14k gold over silver and I purchased them for precisely that reason. Unfortunately, they have affected my granddaughters ears as she cannot wear anything that is not gold. She developed inflammation and puss, due to the earrings. Very disappointed and the description should have a warning that anyone with sensitivity to non-gold should not purchase product.
