Detailed Historical Romance

A wonderfully done historical with romantic tension that has you on the edge of your seat. The beautiful descriptions of the Cumberland Gap down to the specific flowers blooming has you seeing the picturesque setting and feeling like you are viewing it through the characters eyes. I found myself weeping when Thomas and Kate are with Flying Clouds....shhhh I cant say more or it will be a spoiler. Well written and extremely well researched and the cover matches the detailed description of the dress used for a special occasion in the story. I've enjoyed all five books in The Daughters of the Mayflower series. Barbour Publishing has done an exceptional job. I also enjoyed that the author added Author's Note and Historical Note at the end to give a better understanding of the story and time period. Excellent job and highly recommended. I received a complimentary copy from Barbour Publishing. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.

A moving and engaging story!

Oh what a moving and emotional tale! The sparks of the romance were heart warming and made for a very satisfying read. The danger and trepidation of having to make the journey and decisions here were felt with every fiber. An amazing author who knows how to weave a story! Reading this made me feel for both sides during a time where tempers were high and attacks were always a chance with Indians and travelers. You will be on the edge of your seat flipping the pages fast to know how it all ends! Thomas and Kate were very well written with flaws to keep them relatable and lovable. A bookshelf keeper! I received this book from Barbour and this is my opinion on it.

I definitely recommend The Cumberland Bride!

I am a new reader of Author Shannon McNear's books, and The Cumberland Bride (part of the Daughters of the Mayflower series) is the first story of hers that I have read. I will definitely be reading more of her books! I really enjoyed this historical fiction story that takes place after the Revolutionary War and during the expansion westward during the 1790's. Author McNear takes great pains to portray the mindset and attitudes of the times rather than portray events from our modern sensibilities, and I really appreciate that. It makes the story much more authentic. While I loved Thomas and Kate's tale, this story is much more than a sweet and tender love story, The Cumberland Bride covers the real dangers of western expansion, family dynamics, loss, interactions with Native American Indians, and growing faith in God during times of hardship. All of these themes actually make the love story even more precious. Shannon McNear knows how to write a tender love story! I definitely recommend The Cumberland Bride to fans of historical fiction!
