Asia is Back!!

Asia (the four original members) have returned with an excellent cd from front to back. The material here easily compares with the best of their earlier work in the 80's. John Wetton is in fine voice and the other members, Palmer, Howe and Downes are at the top of their respective games. If you liked their original prop/pop offerings on "Asia" and "Alpha", you'll love this! Music of this quality is rare these days. Welcome back boys!!

Still deciding

This review is strictly an opinion style, not the traditional song by song break down. For any Asia fan "Phoenix" was very much anticipated for the simple fact that all four original members reunited for the first time in 25 years. After my first run through the album I felt disappointed and some what let down. My anticipation of their new album having the same energy as "Astra" and "Aqua", was disappointing. Im not saying that Phoenix is a bad album, for which it is not, its just something that has to grow on you. Track one "Never Again" is my favorite and has the rock anthem feel, all the songs sounds either tired or pushed. Being that I am a die hard fan I still bought the album out of loyality. It is strongly recommend that any 80's band attempting a return to the studios to try and remember that it is the 21st Century, and that just because you look old doesn't mean you have to sound old. Asia's "Phoenix" is a rough gem and shouldn't be completely written off either. I am eager and curious to see what or if the original line up of Asia compiles a new album.
