Key item features

It's a mystery why Columbia has so many Robbins compilations in print, since they all cover roughly the same territory. Lifetime of Song (1951-1982) isn't as comprehensive as the Essential Marty Robbins: 1951-1982 box, nor as concise as The Story of My Life; what it is, rather, is a kind of a follow-up to 1972's All-Time Greatest Hits collection, featuring a number of classics ("A White Sport Coat," "Singing the Blues," "Among My Souvenirs") that were omitted from the earlier record. It duplicates many tracks from the aforementioned sets, but it's still great listening on its own, even if it isn't necessarily the place to start. ~ Jim Smith, All Music Guide

MARTY ROBBINS - REMEMBERED IN THIS COMPILATION

Marty Robbins, born Martin David Robinson, is appropriately remembered with regard to a majority of his most popular 1951-1982 in-studio recordings. I knew precisely what to expect when purchasing this title of compact-disc, since I already own this title on vinyl LP, which I had obtained shortly after his passing from complications of follow-up heart surgery. Many of Marty's best songs are reflected in these track selections, such as "That's All Right"(recorded also in the same year of 1954 by Elvis Presley and served as the initial recognition of Elvis' recording career), to Marty's last and posthumous hit song "Some Memories Just Won't Die"(released near the time of his death in 12/1982). I truly enjoyed Marty Robbins' style of expressing songs, his high-spirited personality and his bouncy stride, and some of my personal favorites are "White Sports Coat", "Singin' The Blues", "El Paso", etc. Basically, Marty had consistently exhibited his Tex-Mex background, with inclusion of a whistle here and a yodel there. Marty Robbins is an artist whose contributions are deserving of due recognition and remembrance, and this collection allows us to enjoy most of his essential lifetime of songs.
