The best selling Brinsea EcoGlow Chick Brooders have been redesigned to be even safer, more economical and easier to clean. The new EcoGlow Safety 1200 Chick Brooder is ideal for up to 35 chicks or ducklings and suitable for any waterfowl or game-bird chicks. It is also ideal for classroom hatches. This unit only uses 18 Watts (less than a 10% of the electricity of typical suspended heat lamps) because the chicks are in contact with its warm under-surface. The metal warming plate evens out hot and cold spots which occur with plastic heat plates improving heat radiation and the new flared skirt design retains more heat further reducing energy use. Unlike other chick heating plates the EcoGlow Brooders run at 12v from a mains transformer (supplied) – a much safer option than mains voltage and features a generous 10 feet power lead. Other features include height settings, an indicator light and a free clear plastic cover.

EcoGlow works and is suitable in some cooler temps
My chicks (18 egg chickens and 4 guineas) are a week old now. I have them out in a brood box inside the chicken coop. We have had two nights down in the 20s (F), a few days that havent made it over low 40s, and all the chicks are perfectly content. The directions say not to use this heating plate alone under 50 degrees F, but it seems like a few nights with frost and cool days doesn't bother them. Its nice to not deal with adjusting a heating lamp, worrying about burning down the house, barn or chicken coop, and the chicks get to self regulate by zooming around in out from the brooder plate as they need to.
