With this release, a classy common ground was found between early-'70s AM pop and Sinatra's signature style. While what's gone before is well represented by stalwart conductor/arranger Gordon Jenkins, he shock of the new is evidenced in the song selection, which includes a brace of tunes by Joe Raposo (perhaps best known as the composer of Kermit the Frog's signature song "Being Green,") as well as Kris Kristofferson's "Nobody Wins." This albums calling card, of course, is Sondheim's "Send In The Clowns," from A Little Night Music. This tune is the very definition of self-deprecatory introspection, which is something Sinatra knows more than a little about.
