"Jimmy's Got A Girlfriend" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo Or Group With Vocal.
The Wilkinsons' debut, NOTHIN' BUT LOVE, was a gem, showing that this Canadian trio composed of a father and his two teenage kids was far from a novelty act. Even better is their sophomore effort, HERE AND NOW, an immensely enjoyable set that highlights the group's layered family harmonies. HERE AND NOW also shows tremendous growth, both in subject matter and vocal performance. Tyler Wilkinson's voice had barely broken at the time of their debut; now, he sounds like a man. His sister Amanda's vocals, always the most polished of the three, have become even more soulful. And as Amanda and Tyler have matured, so has the subject matter. Now, they can tackle subjects like heartbreak and failed relationships ("Shame on Me," "1999") and describe the dizzying effects of love ("It Was Only a Kiss"). Still, there's plenty of room for teenage subject matter, like the charming "Jimmy's Got a Girlfriend" and the Beatlesque "Hypothetically." Father Steve closes the album with the touching "The Only Rose," a song for every parent whose daughter has struggled with low self-esteem. Because it seems inevitable that one day, Tyler and Amanda will opt for solo careers, fans should enjoy the Wilkinsons HERE AND NOW.
