Garmin Montana 700i, Rugged GPS Handheld with Built-in inReach Satellite Technology, Glove-Friendly 5" Color Touchscreen

These 700 series Montana GPSs are a monster! Huge! The silver lining to the size cloud is that with my old eyes, it is a lot easier to read than my Oregon's smaller screen. You better have a very large pocket to carry this with or use a neck strap. Battery life is acceptable, but I bit the $99 dollar bullet and bought a backup battery. I wish the 700i had removeable AA batteries instead of 100% sealed rechargeable like the plain 700 and my old Oregon. Downloading satellite imagery from the Garmin site is easy, and the clarity is ok. In test runs the dual GPS signal works perfectly. They say it will find the waypoint within 15 feet, but it finds my stake markers within 5-10 feet just about every time. Sunlight readable screen is a huge bonus over my Oregon. I hike the mountains of Wyoming and Montana and of course there are dead spots, but overall I am confident knowing it will get me back to my camp safely, and if not, there is always the built in IN-REACH as a last resort.!. Plus the means to text with the reasonably priced subscription. The good points and improvements over the old Montana series and other smaller Garmins offsets the large size and extra weight. Go to the 750i though instead of the 700i. More features, minor price hike. I did not do my research as in depth as I should have.
