While this is an attractive headboard for the price, I am very disappointed with the side rails. Look at the photo VERY carefully before you buy. The photo shows an over sized white quilt covering the mattress AND box springs. Unless you plan on making your bed this way every day, be prepared to see your box spring. My box springs are 8.5"" and my mattress is 13"" deep. The side rails only cover the bottom 1.5"" of the box springs. Because of the side rails/foot board, you cannot use a bed skirt. The foot board sticks out about 3"" and the bed skirt just does not hang well. A standard queen comforter only hangs down about 2"" below the top of the box springs, leaving 5-6"" of box springs showing. Placing a king comforter on a queen bed will cover the box springs, however there is an unacceptable amount of bunching at the corners. I am afraid someone would trip of all that excess fabric. I've considered putting a mattress pad or sheet over the box springs, but I think it would look like you did exactly that. You will still have a big gap between your comforter and the bed rail. Doesn't really matter if it is the box springs or some fabric, it doesn't look right. It is hardly worth the cost of shipping to send this back, so we are trying to figure out is we can just somehow attach a normal bed frame to the headboard and ditch the rest. Very disappointed that we have had to spend so much time trying to figure out an option that might work. Wish I had spent more on a bed with no side rails or much higher ones.
