Placenames of Georgia, (Paperback)

This is the best book available for a comprehensive interpretation of all place names in Georgia. Unlike "tourist" type publications, John Goff put much thought and research into most of the words. Some discussions of word etymologies last several paragraphs. Other documents with similar names tend to merely be rehashing of 19th century publications . . . which were merely speculations or folklore. I had to give Goff a 4 star rating instead of a 5 because several of his translations of Creek words are wrong. He also labeled many Creek words in the Georgia Mountains as Cherokee words . . . but we are taking care of that problem right now - with a separate book just for Native American words.
