Quality materials and construction. Need 10 mm wrench and 4 mm allen head to tighten legs. 9 15/16" diameter of cooking area. NOT 12." Ceramic fire box is integrated with outer shell: No removable fire box. Ceramic is 1/2" thick. Adequate. No bottom-vent adjustment like the big boys, but heat was easy to control with just the top vent. Can simulate closing a bottom vent to save unspent charcoal by lifting unit from legs and setting on cement with top closed. Clearance between bottom of thermometer probe and top of grill is only about 3/8" so you need to arrange your food on either side of the probe or you will poke a hole in your food and the thermometer will read way off. About 1/3 of the charcoal pieces from the bag I bought were too large to fit under the grill. I'll try briquettes next time. This time I had the charcoal basket (See pic) about half full and we (serially) cooked (a) two foil packets (Google "Easy Chicken Fajita Foil Packets"), (b) two baked apples and (c) about 10 oz. salmon. Judging by the amount of unspent charcoal left, I could have used less because the unit held heat so well. This grill is just the right size for one or two people so I plan to buy a second one for visitors.
