Spanning an impressive wide-angle to super-telephoto range, the Canon EF-mount 18-400mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD from Tamron is a true all-in-one lens to suit photographing the widest of vistas to the details of wildlife. Designed for APS-C-format DSLRs, this 28.8-640mm equivalent lens uses a three-step extension design to maintain a compact and lightweight form factor despite its expansive reach. In regard to the optics, a series of aspherical and low dispersion elements help to correct various aberrations and distortion for consistent sharpness and clarity throughout the zoom range.
Benefitting the reach and optical layout, this lens also features an HLD autofocus motor that delivers quick and responsive focusing performance that is also quiet to benefit video recording needs. Vibration Compensation is also featured, which corrects for up to 2.5 stops of camera shake to help deliver sharper imagery when shooting handheld. Additionally, supporting this 18-400mm's all-in-one designation, a moisture-resistant construction ensures its use in trying environmental conditions.
- All-in-one zoom is designed for Canon EF-mount APS-C-format DSLRs, and provides a 28.8-640mm equivalent focal length range.

Great all around lens
4.5 Stars If you are looking for a versatile travel lens where you don't have to constantly switch out lenses, consider this Tamron. I have had this lens for just under a week and have given it a good workout. So far, I am quite impressed. It has been so easy to just walk around with one lens and get, not only, nice wide angle shots, but also decent closeups. Is it the sharpest? Not in every instance. But, for anyone who is a photography enthusiast and not a professional, this is a great lens. My interests are flowers, birds, landscapes and architecture The build seems good and it comes with a lens hood. The two things I wish were better are the lock function only works when lens is completely closed. It would be nice to lock the lens at different focal lengths. Which brings me to point number two. The lens tends to creep. Not while shooting, but when the lens is pointed downwards. This is a bit annoying. Other than that, I am really satisfied with the results and can't wait to take it on future travel adventures.

A great zoom lens at a reasonable price.
This is not the sharpest lens available. It does not have the greatest reach available. It is simply a fantastic compromise when you need a landscape and wildlife lens in one. Think of a trip to Alaska or Hawaii. Great vistas and great animals. And you can get them all by carrying just one lens. And if it is sunny you can use a 1.4 teleconverter to get a reach of 560mm. But, if you are looking at this lens, also look at a bridge camera like the Nikon P900, 950 or 1000.
