Not user friendly. The assembly was fairly easy, but the usability is pretty annoying. First, in order to take advantage of both modalities, you must adjust the pedals. The pedal adjustment is EXTREMELY cumbersome and time consuming. The large screw pegs that raise and lower the foot pedals must be unscrewed and then screwed back in. Fine if you are only using the elliptical to sit and do exercise, but to get the pedals into the standing positions the holes are so close to the bottom of the pedals that you literally scrape your knuckles to secure it. Additionally, one of my screw peg holes was a degree off line, so it was impossible to secure the screw peg and it made an awful squeaking noise because the pedal needed to be constantly adjusted. I would say the machine was quiet for about 1 minute of a 15 minute workout. Not good if you want to work or watch TV. This elliptical had potential, but design flaws and lack of usability caused me to return this in less than a week. I should note that I have owned ellipticals before and they all make a little noise, but it is usually maintained by regular lubrication and maintenance. This apparatus has a design flaw. Not recommended for people with a decent amount of patience and normal to large sized hands...as it is the elliptical can't *effectively* be used in the advertised manner. If you want a sit down elliptical then this might be for you, if you want the versatility of both sit down and stand up, I would go with another choice. Really the only good thing about it was the handle- great feature and was useful when I was putting it back in the box to return it.
