International star come rise

Having had a lifelong love of Black music and culture I first met Akiwali some twenty years ago. I had recently returned from three months in the Bahamas and feeling somewhat miserable. I met Akiwali on a Saturday at his market stall in Cardiff. If that sounds very precise it's because the moment is burned into my mind. Here was a man I instantly warmed to but little did I know what an influence he would become. Akiwali is so much more than a friend, he is a teacher. A teacher of art, history, and music, you could be forgiven for thinking that after all this time that this book would hold no surprises but you would be wrong. From his time involved with Trafalga arts, his extensive travel, his youth work with swimming, this book charts the life of an extraordinary ordinary man. A man with great depth and love for his fellow man but a man who it is clear is shrewd, intelligent and quick to laugh. This book will delight anyone who has a love for the everyday man doing everyday things that somehow make him anything but every day. Akiwali is a man in a million and his story is just a glimpse into a life well-lived.

A great Read

Akiwali Walters gives the reader a history and current affairs lesson from the eyes of a ghetto youth in Jamaica. This book is like a history and present day recollection of how family is important in Jamaica, where popular trends follows a single parent household. Quarter the way through the book and it is quite insightful and informative.
