Vicinal dioximes have also been widely investigated as analytical reagents, compounds having columnar stacking are thought to possess semiconducting properties and, recently in macrocyclization reactions. Both the presence of mildly acidic hydroxy groups and slightly basic nitrogen atoms make (E, E)-dioximes amphoteric ligands which form corrin-type square-planar, square-pyramidal and octahedral complexes with some transition metal ions such as nickel (II), cobalt(II), copper(II), palladium(II) and cobalt(III) as central metal atoms.
