There's no assembly needed. Just plug a hose into the sprinkler, pick a setting and turn on the water. You may want to experiment with the settings. You can select Left or Right to have the water flow in a specific direction. However, it will still send a small spread of water in the opposite direction. For a yard the size of mine (backyard is 64 ft x 64 ft), this has a very wide spread though I have to move it around to do the entire yard. If you don't want to waste water, it needs to be in a very wide open area. Otherwise you'll be watering a patio, sidewalk and whatever else. For the money it seems to be a good deal. I'm expecting to get at least a few years or more out it. I had a similar model from Walmart prior to this one and it lasted about 5 years if I recall correctly.
