Good to have around

In 1958 my family's next door neighbor worked for Bell Telephone Laboratories. They helped to invent and put to use metalized mylar. I was small but I remember my neighbor called us over to the fence and pulled a little square of this stuff out of his wallet with reverence and awe, it was a shiny new expensive and high tech invention. He showed it to me and my dad. NASA made several huge balloon satellites out of this wondrous new material, they could be seen easily from the ground at night. Nowadays we give big sheets of this away to the homeless and to disaster victims. Mylar has the ability to block moisture and gasses that ordinary plastic can not. I tested a corner of one of mine with a lighter, it shrinks and curls up but it does not burn easily. More than just a blanket, these can work for many sudden situations like a survival shelter in the woods, damaged roof patch, or to weatherize or block a broken window, or to make a solar oven, or cut a hole in the middle of it and use it for a poncho. Every vehicle should have several of these in its trunk. I am giving most of mine away, a dozen to the local food pantry that serves homeless people. This is a good deal if you are sure they will get used. They store very compactly, each one in a ziplock bag.

Home Safety

In seeking to prepare for disaster and be as safe as we can should such an event arrive, we got these emergency blankets just in case. With quite a few to the package, we are going to be able to place them in our car, garage, bed rooms, etc. And have them at the ready should the need ever arise. I would say they make a worthwhile investment.

So many uses!

I pride myself on always being prepared for the unexpected and so I always have several of these in my trunk, purse, backpack, glovebox, home, and go-bag. The older I get, the lighter I prefer to travel and these emergency blankets hardly weigh anything, but have kept me completely warm on many a night spent sleeping outdoors while hiking or cycling. This pack of 20 is the best price I have found anywhere and they have not sacrificed size or quality in the process. SOMETHING YOU MAY NOT KNOW… if you like to bake and ship goodies as much as I do, just freeze your baked goods and then wrap them collectively in a Mylar emergency blanket before you put them in the box. I've never had anything melt during shipping using these… even on hot days!
