These spoons work about as well as plastic spoons with less environmental damage. Even "compostable" plastics can only be composted in some cities so wood is a better option in other places: they can be composted in any commercial facility. Wood spoons don't perform well if you let them sit in liquid or hot food for a long time, but it's easy to avoid this. Sometimes these have small splinters on the edges, like takeout chopsticks do, but you can inspect them and rub any splinters off if necessary before using them. On the other hand, they are stronger than some cheap plastic spoons, and you can use them to quickly stir something boiling that would melt a plastic spoon.
