Easy Peasy!!!

I live in a senior rental. Recently they have started a crafting time. I was surprised that these folks that showed up could do only the simplest things like color simple pictures. I wanted to help with expenses as much as I can. I downloaded simple pictures from my computer to paper for them to get comfortable with. Next thing she gave them a choice of these unfinished wooden items like pumpkins, leaves, acorns etc. So when I was doing my grocery cart I also saw these and knew they could surely paint a blak cat! I'd already gave the instructor a bag of googly eyes...so they could be brave any make painted eyes or glue on some goofy ones!! There are all sorts of things you can do with these. A fluffy faux fur tail and ear tufts. Shading teaches hand control. I like to do a dark base coat and then do a modified dry brush method to get a bit of blue on the cat. I brought my black cat from Texas in a dog cage he was so big...lol. So I could see where to hit highlights on the wooden cat from many years of grooming...lol. so I've been buying more shapes for the class. Everyone had a ball and surprised themselves how much fun it was. Mistakes are an opportunity to try something new like a sprinkle of glitter!! They are cheap enough to just throw away or to dry and start over.. One thing I noticed while watching others paint is that they use the brush like a scoop full of paint until it drips off the bottom...what a mess! I didn't want to correct them. Seniors don't seem to care for any kind of negative correction. Only dip the bristles 3/4 of the way up a slightly damp brush. It will pick up the paint easier. Look for other shapes to paint. Don't be afraid to add embellishments too. Walmart has a lot of them all through the store in different departments. I keep a box with tidbits and scraps from cardmaking etc. I also used to go out back of our building to gather bits of plant material, feathers, grasses and curlicues from the wild grapevine! Pinecones that are tiny can be decorated and used as a focal point. Of course if just woodstain is your thing, do it, the grain in these is beautiful when brought out with stain. I've even "stained" icing flowers with a clean brush and food color paste. Took some practice but my big dog Gracie enjoyed a few bloopers!! Only a couple, they have raw egg white!! You're imagination is your only drawback. Got an idea? Jot it down and throw it in your tidbit box for craft time. Have fun and keep an eye out for ones that appeal to you...I was raised on farms with lots of animals. They are also theraputic for me. Happy crafting! It's also theraputic...lol🙃
