They are easy to write and draw on. Different colored pens and markers did not bleed through. I used ink gel pins, whiteboard markers, permanent markers and Bic pens. The thickness seems good - they are not flimsy. They also aren't too heavy to be considered a postcard. I used mine for Postcards to Voters for Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH.) I was pleased with how the postcards turned out. And I believe that the postcards are lovely for autumn!
