If you follow the instructions, the heater works great. Filled the unit with fuel (outside) and let sit overnight. Only have to let sit for an hour. Lit the unit for the first time outside and let it do its thing for an hour. Afterwards, I bought the unit inside, I lit it again and observed, and adjusted the flame until it no longer smoked. Had a bit of a problem at first. The flames did not distribute evenly around the wick which caused soot and not the 23,000 btu's as advertised. So, I turned it off, let the unit cool down. Then I followed the instructions, disassembled the per instructions and raised the wick per adjustment knob until I could access the top of the wick. Then, brushed off the wick with an old toothbrush until the soot was removed and the wick was soft and fuzzy. Then I reassembled the unit, lit it up once again, and Walla, the flames were even around the wick. No more soot when I adjusted the flames per instructions. And I got the btu's as claimed. Nice. Real nice. Burned about a quarter tank of fuel in 5 hours. Now I have adequate backup heat if the power goes out.
