Bad design - overheats, google "TP-link AX 50 overheating". Too bad, range looks excellent.

AX3000 - Not great.

This AX3000 is an Intel based router that runs hot. My old ARM based TP-Link router, a TL-WR1043ND, runs very cool. I had a new (less then 3 months old) HP laptop supplied by my company that could not see this router even when right next to it. I had to reconnect my old TP-Link router to use the laptop with WiFi. I have an older laptop running Linux Mint that can connect to the AX3000 but it randomly stops working until it is disconnected and reconnected from the router's WiFi. I recently bought a Philips "smart" Android TV that drops WiFi connection to this router requiring an unplug and plug back in of the TV. The TV may be the problem there as it has numerous additional issues. Turning off the LED lights in the router admin page does not work as expected. The LEDs will sometimes randomly turn back on if you just use the LED toggle. To keep them off you need to set the LED off schedule for a 23 hour and 59 minute time period (5:59 AM to 6:00 AM) Signal strength seems to be a little better than the TP-Link it is replacing but overall it appears to be less reliable. I will be avoiding Intel based routers in the future as it is the most notable difference between the 2 TP-Link routers I have owned.

Hi,

Thank you for your review. In regards to your HP laptop, we recommend verifying whether or not it is using an Intel WiFi chipset, and if so, please make sure to update its driver to help ensure support for 802.11ax WiFi. Despite 802.11ax supporting backwards compatibility, we recommend ensuring all of your computers have the latest WiFi drivers installed. To ensure optimal performance of your wireless router please check, and if needed, update its firmware using the steps outlined in our FAQ: https://www.tp-link.com/us/faq-2139.html

If you'd like assistance with any of these steps, please send an e-mail with your contact information and a link to this review to USSupportTeam@TP-Link.com and we'll gladly have a Support Agent follow up with you directly.

Thank you,
TP-Link Support

USB 2.0 only on a modern AX router? Yep!

This is the USB 2.0 version. Newest wifi-standards, old old USB standards. THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING, and only by seeing a pix of the package is this truth revealed. When I look up AX3000 units, I see blue USB 3.0 ports on models. Walmart sells the AX3000, but somehow, they only sell the USB 2 stripped down model. SO frustrating.
