This gate is perfect for introducing new kittens to older cats. It's tall enough that no one can jump over, and the bars are narrow so the babies can't fit through. It easily opens by either lifting the gate or pulling up on the latch. The door easily swings in both directions. I did not use that plastic foot part, I forget if that's what it's called, but it's not something I needed. The gate works perfectly without it. Now that everyone is introduced and getting along well, I still use the gate to separate them for feeding time. This way everyone is eating the appropriate food and they are not over-eating. I had only planned on using this gate temporarily, but I use it so much, I don't want to take it down. It's so helpful. Sometimes, i close the gate lightly so it doesn't latch. I allow the big cats to push their way in if they want to come in, but it's too heavy for the kittens to get out. Otherwise, i have no issue with getting it to latch behind me. Gates I've used in the past have been frustrating because they don't always click in when you need them to. This one closes easily. I never get frustrated. If the kittens are playing behind the gate while it's open, sometimes they knock it shut. My plan is to create a hook to the wall. Something easy like a clear wall hang and a short bungee. Right now, if the kittens are running wild, I will put something heavy in front of the gate. But that's not an issue. I will say... it can be difficult wedging the gate in your doorway when installing. I did NOT remove the zip tie that was attached until I got the gate in place, but it was pretty difficult, even with the zip tie. So I am afraid to take it down in case I need to put it back up. I have large zip ties... I think I'm going to zip tie it back together myself before taking the gate down. Hopefully, this will limit the struggle if I need to put it back up! All in all, this gate was exactly what I have been searching for. I don't trip on the base bar. I don't feel like I have to tiptoe through it. It costs more because it's really well made, but I would not consider this to be expensive. I'm actually surprised it didn't cost more. If you foster kittens and need a gate, this is a great one for introductions and to get them slowly and safely socialized!!
