Of course it uses size D batteries, and it uses eight size D batteries, but it's no problem getting these from the $.99 only store. There is also a 9 V adapter. What I like about this is I can put this anywhere where it is needed during the time of year when I can get by with running a fan rather than my air conditioner, and it provides a nice cool breeze. The original shipment had been damaged and that fan would not turn on. Not their fault, the item had been damaged during shipping. The replacement works beautifully. And they provided a replacement fairly rapidly, so that was appreciated. My only regret with this item is that I wish there were some other way of providing the battery power for the unit, like a rechargeable laptop style battery. Maybe I can find rechargeable D size batteries, I find that size cumbersome. I will have to see how long these batteries last. But I am very pleased with the strong current of air that comes from the fan even at a low setting
