Forgiveness and Healing

I love the Heroines of WWII series and this one puts the icing on the cake. I loved how the point of view was shown from the German POW's as well as Fannie and her family. We tend to carry hate in our hearts for the atrocities of WWII but a lot of those soldiers were forced to serve and didn't agree with the cause. I could picture these areas as I lived in WI for twenty years but was completely unaware that German prisoners had once lived and worked there. I was so glad this was brought to light by the author and feel her research was impeccable. I admire the strength it took to have your enemy working in your fields and feeding them. Yet isn't that what God commands us to do. We see the struggles this family faces especially when the brothers return from the war. Dale was a great example of how we all need to carry forgiveness in our hearts and how forgiveness is imperative to healing. A wonderful story that blends fact with fiction flawlessly. Add to your TBR pile immediately as you won't want to miss this. I received a complimentary copy from CelebrateLit. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.

Great Historical Fiction

Season of my Enemy by Naomi Musch is part of the heroines of World War II series. Fannie is on the farm doing the work her brothers would be doing. However, since they are off at war she must to give up her time at the library and pursuing her education at the normal school to help on the farm. In desperation, her mother allows the German prisoners to work on the farm. How can this be fair when her brothers are fighting in the war? Are Cal and Dale safe? There is one German prisoner who tends to notice Fannie. She seems to connect with him. However could she even dare to dream about someone who is fighting her brothers, the enemy? This was a fun read. I do enjoy historical fiction. I don't know as much about this time. Or circumstance so it was partly educational as well. I was given a free copy from the publisher for my honest review which I was happy to do. I would recommend season of my enemy.

Interesting history

We have to let that be our flame - the flame to keep going in spite of the war. It was interesting to learn that many farms in the USA used German POWs to work their fields and harvest the crops. After all, with most of the young men and many of the fathers seeking victory in Europe or the Pacific theater, there were no workers to plant and gather except the women and children. The food was obviously needed at home and also on the frontlines. How was one to know who could be trusted and who they should be wary of? This dilemma faced Fannie and her young brother, Jerry, the only ones left on the farm in Wisconsin besides their mother and young sister. With a great deal of detail, the author shows us what was involved in this venture and how easily it could have turned out differently if the workers had nefarious ideas. Another chance to learn about the Heroines of WWII, this story brings history to life. An early copy was received through Barbour Publishing, CelebrateLit and NetGalley. These thoughts and impressions are my own and were in no way solicited.
