Charlotte Pipe and Foundry History

In 1901 W. Frank Dowd recognized the need for plumbing pipe in the newly industrialized, post-war South. To answer this need he built a small foundry in Charlotte, North Carolina to produce cast iron soil pipe and fittings. The original Charlotte Pipe and Foundry employed 25 men.

Since then, Charlotte Pipe has been a trusted manufacturer of plumbing systems. We are the nation's top maker of cast iron and plastic pipe and fittings, producing the industry's broadest range of standard and specialty DWV products. In fact, we're the only manufacturer that offers a complete system of cast iron, PVC, CPVC, ABS, FlowGuard Gold and ChemDrain pipe and fittings for residential and commercial applications.
