Homicide: Life on the Street - The Complete Series (DVD), Drama, Shout! Factory

Somehow I missed this series when it originally aired on TV. I happened to see an episode a while ago and was immediately hooked. I set out to find the DVD series to purchase and was delighted that it was available to order on Walmart and at a very good price. Shipping was fast as usual when ordering from Walmart. Homicide: Life on the Streets is generally fast-paced and action packed with occasional scenes moving more slowly. There is a good amount of back story to help you engage with the characters. It was shocking and delightful to see so many actors from more recent crime dramas who apparently got their start on this series. The only complaint I have is that closed captions are not available, at least on some DVD sets. This is not a deal breaker for me, but I do prefer having the option. Some scenes in almost every episode are graphic and I would not recommend this show for small children. A big plus for me is that this series is based on the book by David Simon, and is supposed to be a true portrayal of a homicide unit. I bought the book and plan to read it after watching the entire series, then watch the series again to ascertain similarities between the portrayal of the characters. If you love watching crime dramas but missed watching it in the 1990s like I did, this complete series DVD set should be in your collection.
