A classic movie

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is one of the classics. It is a story of poverty, the troubles and trials of life, and a family's resilience as they survive in the tenements of Brooklyn. The story begins in 1912. If you have read the book by Betty Smith then you may know the book was a bestseller and a sensation in 1943 because of its blunt and honest description of life which the author herself had experienced. This movie won the Academy Award in 1946 for James Dunn who played the role of the father in this family. As a movie, it cannot be as detailed as the nearly 500 paged book yet it is an excellent portrayal of Betty Smith's work.
