It is perfect once you get it set right, the area I needed it for was 54" and this was almost too small. All the bolts have a notch in them so far down that makes it complicated but I'm assuming that is the " safeguard " for the sturdiness. All in all, this is a great and very useful gate for whatever you're needing to keep an area off or limited limits. The " no hands" ordeal? Because of the sturdiness this gate provides, it hurts if you don't have shoes on because you have to slide and push the top of your foot upwards against the gate so beware if your barefoot. Highly recommended but it is a hassle if it's not correctly set right.
