Sharon Flake's award-winning debut novel!

Maleeka suffers every day from the taunts of the other kids in her class. If they're not getting at her about her homemade clothes or her good grades, it's about her dark, black skin.

When a new teacher, whose face is blotched with a startling white patch, starts at their school, Maleeka can see there is bound to be trouble for her too. But the new teacher's attitude surprises Maleeka. Miss Saunders loves the skin she's in. Can Maleeka learn to do the same?

A very insperational product

This book is really good. It will have you on your toes. It relates to young teenagers and how they feel in their skin. I would recomend this book to any parent with a child 9-17 years of age. Or a young mother. Even a woman with skin issues or a girl with a skin diasese. Give it to a girl who hasn't found themselves yet or a girl with skin issues. THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR BOYS.

How to build Self-esteem

This book was so amazing. It made me think back to my childhood and how I felt, because I didn't have the materialistic things that other kids had. But I had something better a gift similiar to Makeela. This book will make you laugh, upset you and make you want to take Makeela in your arms and just hug her, until everything is alright. I also used this book as a book read for my Girls Ministry. They had to answer 3 questions in essay form. The top 3 could win a gift card.
