M2 (6542) high-speed steel taps offer high hardness, good toughness, wear resistance, and excellent cutting performance. 9SiCr alloy tool steel die provides excellent hardness, toughness and wear resistance for durability. Uncoated tap & die set provides good cutting performance.
Taper Tap: Starts the thread and guide it into workpiece, commonly used when tapping through holes. Plug Tap: Creates deeper threads than taper taps, suitable for through-hole and blind-hole applications. Straight flute taps provide fast downward chip removal, clear threads without burrs. Round die features conical locking hole, strong locking and not loose.
Metric tap and die set can re-thread damaged or jammed threads, or to create new threads. Suitable for tapping through or shallow holes in mild steels, aluminum, iron, copper, hard plastic. The surface is lubricated with grease to prevent rust.
The tap & die set is mainly for hand use (the thread tap is used with a tap wrench and the round die is used with a die stock). Apply appropriate cutting lubricant or oil during the tapping process for higher quality threads and more durable tools.
Tips: Ensure proper alignment, use proper tapping technique, and apply consistent pressure as you turn the tap & die to achieve clean, precise threads. Periodically reverse while tapping to break up chips and remove debris from the flutes, preventing clogging and ensuring smooth operation.
