I look forward to laundry day

We purchased this washer in January 2025 after consulting Consumer Reports when our 24-year-old machine washed its last load. After our new washer was installed, the learning process for me began. This new machine isn't my grandmother's wringer washer, and I had to learn how to do laundry all over again. Since this washer senses the weight of clothes to be washed, I learned how to select the proper cycle for each load and have become quite pleased with its cycles and quiet performance. In fact, I look forward to laundry day. From washing a few small pieces to a queen-size blanket or winter coat, this machine does it all with cycles to match. I don't think we have ever had so many clean clothes in this house before! We couldn't be more pleased with the ability and performance of this WT8405CW washing machine.

Works well when you "fake it out"

I was drug kicking and screaming to this new washing machine after my 2008 direct drive Whirpool was making so much racket on the spin cycle it shook the house. I believed that any new washer would be inferior to that old classic, and I was right up to a point. The new washer takes longer to wash clothes but does get them clean enough when I take the proper precautions. Basically, when I load the machine I evenly spread out the clothes in the basket and then dump a 3 gallon bucket of water on them. Since there is no manual water setting, I have to "fake out" the weighing sensors to make them believe there is more clothes than are really there so I get enough water to go over the pile. I do this in conjunction with the deep fill setting and it does work great. I tried using AI Wash before trying this method and the results were disapointing. The upshot to this washer is that it does more effectively rinse out the clothes since they smell less like Tide than they did with the old washer. This model is good enough by modern washer standards, and that's really all you can expect.

Hi. Thank you for sharing such a detailed and thoughtful review. We truly appreciate hearing about your journey from your previous brand to your new LG washer. It’s great to know that while the longer cycles take some adjustment, the deep fill setting and your method help achieve clean results, and that the rinse performance leaves clothes fresher with less detergent residue compared to your previous washer. Your insights about the weighing sensors and AI Wash are very valuable. For more feedback or questions, please send us an email at lgdigitalcare@lg.sprinklrsupport.com. Thanks for choosing LG! #LifesGood ^James

Good overall.

I've had the machine for almost 6 months. Complaint(s): #1. When I am washing my bed sheet on the bedding program, I always have to pause the machine when it gets to the spin cycle and manually re-distribute my sheet around the drum as it is always off to one side at the end of the rinse cycle. I think the size of the tub in itself may actually be contributing to this issue - so bigger may not always be better in this case. However, maybe there is a better way for me to be load into the machine at the beginning? #2. When it has detects an unbalanced load, it's solution first is to add another rinse cycle to help untangle and re-distribute the items. If this is going to be a feature, the subsequent rinse cycles should be shorter than the first. #3. Because of the lower water levels used, I found mesh bags don't really work well unless you stuff em' up (exception are the circle shaped ones which don't do well at all). However, if the main purpose of using mesh bags is to protect delicate clothing, the best thing to do is to just use the delicate ("downloaded") cycle. Aside from these things, I think the machine is pretty good. I have had no issue with 'stain removal' as some other reviewers have mentioned. When it comes to stains, you are supposed to pre-treat them with the appropriate product/chemical before putting them in the wash any way and select the the appropriate temperature setting for the stain (i.e. cold water for blood). Any residue on clothes means your using too much detergent. When it comes to water level, the machine will gradually add in the appropriate amount as the wash cycle continues. How you initially load your clothing however will make a noticeable difference in how well they get submerged in the water. The machine is pretty quiet overall except when the TurboWash feature is used. It becomes a little noisier because of the jet sprays. It's not a feature I use much of, though - only for very small loads.

We’re glad to read you’re enjoying your WT8405CW washer overall and appreciate the thoughtful feedback you’ve shared! The Bedding cycle can sometimes require redistributing larger items like sheets, and loading them loosely around the tub from the start can help improve balance during the spin. Thank you for highlighting the machine’s quiet performance, and thank you for choosing LG! ^Joser56
