A "miss" for Johnson

I bought this to line up a tile floor in a room 16' long to save me a trip back to the shop to get my DeWalt turret laser. When I saw the Johnson name, I thought it might be OK - I've owned Johnson levels in the past. This torpedo level didn't work worth squat and I made the extra trip anyway. This laser uses a prism to make the differing patterns (vertical, horizontal, or both) that is anything but precision. At a range of 16' the light beam is a quarter-inch wide! Absolutely no use to me. I am a builder / remodeler of 30 years. I can say that this is one of the all-time worst tool purchases I have ever made, even when I was a rookie. I suppose if you are doing something that isn't crucial, it might be OK, but I can't think of a single finishing job that I would want to do, from aligning tile to putting up a shelf to mounting a hand rail, to hanging cabinets with as much as 1/4" tolerance within 16'. I take more pride in my work than that, and I'd lay odds that you do too.
