La Tourangelle, White Truffle Infused Oil, 8.45 fl oz (250 ml)

Firstly, this stuff ain't cheap. Anywhere. White truffle is one of the world's great flavors and this is the absolute best of the best. It's Ina Garten's white truffle oil of choice. The reason this oil surpasses all the others is it uses base oils with very little flavor so only the white truffle shines through. La Tourangelle had sourcing issues years ago and rather than put out a sub-par product, they stopped producing it for a long time until their supplier's quality was brought back up to their high standards. I know this because I actually called them when we couldn't find it anymore. During that shortage, we tried many other brands, most using olive oil as the base for the flavoring. The problem was the olive oil flavor would override and compete with the white truffle flavor, literally leaving a bad taste in our mouths, so we just waited until La Tourangelle came back to market with their superior product. White truffle, if you've never had it before, smells a bit like gasoline. That may sound strange, but adding that umami flavor to all kinds of dishes amps them up to the nth degree. There are truffle salts and powders out there (we've tried them all), but this white truffle oil is more intensely flavored and can be drizzled on just about anything. We put it on french fries, macaroni and cheese, beef stews, and even lightly salted popcorn. Though it's expensive, a little goes a long way and it's a staple in our household.
