Half-height front-half R2-D2 great by SW fan desk

This R2-D2 is kind of strange but also pretty cool. It makes for a reasonably usable and moddable desk accessory for Star Wars fans. At 55 bucks, it's a great deal. The strange stuff: A little shy of half-height of the real droid. And the back half is completely missing, there's only the front half. Includes a small beefy C3PO metal statue with posable arms. The cool stuff: It is very sturdy and well built (especially compared to the unobtainable HD full-size holiday R2) . Surprisingly detailed and accurate for a toy. Makes the classice R2 sounds at a reasonable volume, blinks the lights, and there's a switch to disable them. Turn C3PO or grab the holo projector lens to slide R2's "face" to the right on the dome and cause the arm / disc shooter and the saw to pop out of the front. As a desk accessory for Star Wars fans: There's lots of space inside, though the slider/pop-out mechanism is kind of in the middle of it, as is the "handle" bar on the back. Still enough space to use for, say, a tiny projector with the lens positioned above the disc arm, and a USB charger brick, plus misc stuff like coins and such. I put my R2 on top of a cart sitting next to my computer desk. I've attached an 18" magnetic tool bar to the back of the pop-up periscope, which holds some old "lightsaber"-styled screwdrivers. Plus a 6" magbar on the bottom-front of one leg to hold my phone. While the holo projector lens is part of the sliding mechanism and thus not available to poke a projector through, there is room above the disc arm to mount one of those twenty-buck tiny 5" by 3" by 2" projectors (which Walmart sells) upside down, so R2 can properly project the Death Star plans and Leia asking Obi Wan for help. The saw is OK for holding a wallet, the disc claw for holding a key ring, and C3PO can hold a watch (and perhaps a watch charger disc). I'm still figuring out how to have R2 hold my glasses, how to make R2 more stable when loaded up with stuff, and how to add a tiny computer to control the projector, plus add a small LCD display and some Star Wars-themed enamel pins (to act as capacitive touch "buttons") to R2's left-front side to interact with the computer. But figuring that stuff out is half the fun. Overall, highly recommended if you're a tinkerer who loves Star Wars. It's great having R2 sitting next to my desk helping out as R2 does, even if it's only R2's front half.

A must buy for any Star Wars fan

It's awesome! I bought it for my wife and she loves it. She even shed a tear when she saw it. She's a huge fan of Star Wars since she was little when it came out. The sounds effect are on point. If you have anyone that really loves the movies, it makes a great gift.
