I like this soup!

Butternut squash soup by Pacific Foods. Soup is one of my favorite foods, especially in the fall and winter. Butternut Squash is also my favorite squash. So combine the two and it's a no brainer! And it's organic! I thought this soup was really good. It is very creamy and smooth. Nutmeg is a staple in making a squash or pumpkin soup and sometimes I feel it can be over powering. Not in this case. It is well balanced with the other spices of cinnamon, ginger, onion and garlic. Sodium is the next option I look at in buying soups. Some soups are packed with lots of sodium, but I feel like this butternut squash soup is really okay with salt and could be a lot worse. It has 490 mg in one cup, it is gluten free with using rice flour, it doesn't have additives, preservatives and GMO's. Another aspect I like about this soup is that it isn't just a soup. It can be used as a creamy base sauce for lasagna, ravioli, and enchiladas. I am willing to try all of those because it is organic, low fat and gluten free. I like knowing of a soup that is not full of salt and versatile.

Very Fresh and Tasty

I was surprised by how fresh this soup tastes. Much fresher than any other canned or packaged soup. The texture is also very nice. It has enough body to it, that you would just assume it was homemade. The flavor is a little more subjective. Our family loves Butternut Squash, which is why we chose this soup. I found the flavor to be mild for my taste. That is probably preferable for most everyone else who might not be as big a fan of Butternut Squash. In all fairness, we did not attempt to jazz up or over spice the soup. I wanted to try the soup as it came from the package, but I think for my taste, even just a little salt and pepper might have been nice. Another thing I really like about this soup is the package. It is incredibly convenient to open up the top and simply dispense exactly the right portion. No digging out our rarely used can opener or disposing of a messy can. Bottom line, I think this Pacific Natural Foods creamy soup is different from any others I have tried. We are looking forward to trying some of their other flavors.
