Classic Existential Allegory

Classic existential allegory in a readable translation. Insightful and thought provoking if a bit cryptic. Especially good for people of faith to take a hard look at how they may have been taking their religion and its systems and rituals for granted. Necessitates self-awareness and introspection throughout.

A strange, unique book! Nietzsche tried to use storytelling to communicate his philosophy. He did not entirely succeed, since he kept writing books. (I would not start here if approaching Nietzsche for the first time.) Hollingdale's translation is as literal as possible. It's good for study. The main drawback to the Penguin Classic is that it lacks in-depth explanatory notes. You may want to get the Oxford World's Classics edition with more notes, which also tries to preserve the poetry of the original German.
