Bad battery life

Brand new laptop. when I received it, first thing I did was plug it in. Once fully charged, I turned it on, set it up, used it for maybe 30 minutes, then shut it down. About 7-10 days later, I tried to turn it on, but the battery was completely dead. I had to plug it in, and charge it some before I could turn it on. I fully charged it again. Another 7-10 days later, I turned it on, and found my battery was almost completely dead. the battery will not hold a charge even when not used.
