Nice System

I installed my MCK1309WB.6 in my boat yesterday. So far I've tested the radio, Bluetooth® using my smart phone, and USB port and everything works well. The system has plenty of power to provide clear crisp sound and plenty of volume, even for use on the water. I'm quite impressed so far but there are a couple of things to be aware of. The wiring connection instructions in the manual can be a little confusing. It says to connect the power wire to a fused power source and the black ground wire to a metal part of the vehicle for dc common and then it says to connect all other wires as shown. The wiring diagram however shows a red wire marked +12v and a yellow wire marked +12v Ret Memory and this was little confusing. In my 25+ years in industrial equipment electrical design, it is not uncommon that a wire marked +12v Ret Memory to require a +12v pulse to initiate saving data to non-volatile memory so I wasn't sure if this wire should be connected continuously or momentarily. I learned that it does require +12v continuously for the unit to power on. One other comment is with regard to the remote control. While it may sound like a neat feature to have, for most automobile or boat applications it is pretty much useless in my opinion. The remote is similar to a television remote and I suspect, like a television remote, it uses an infrared signal that requires direct line-of-sight to operate. With my audio system mounted in the dash of my boat console, I have to be somewhere in the rear of the boat so I can point the remote at the front of the base unit, in which case it is just as easy to operate it from the font of the unit so is pretty much useless most of the time.
