Decorate your backyard or porch by using a Firepower Nandina. It is a noninvasive nandina used for its red winter foliage. This evergreen nadina produces lime green new growth that turns a brilliant deep red as the temperature starts to decline. It can be planted as a shrubby groundcover due to its overall size or as a foundation plant. When planting this nandina plant, dig the hole twice as wide as the pot and mix rich garden soil in with your native soil. You should then leave the top of the root ball a half an inch above the ground level when filling the hole with soil. In Spring time, you should use a slow release granular fertilizer. It can be used to fill in those parts of your garden or yard that need a bit more foliage. It requires full exposure to sunlight wherever you decide to put it. It has a distinct color that stands out easily.

I have been looking for these shrubs locally for 3 years w/o success. They are drought tolerant and thrive in poor soil. They're bright green through spring & summer and then turn red & orange in the fall. Beautiful! When doing a Google search, I found these at Walmart. And they were cheap. I was very skeptical but desperate. I was sure I would be shipped dead twigs. Wow, what a great surprise. They arrived at my door step boxed in containers that still had moist soil. Not one bent branch with beautiful foliage. These plants were better than anything I have ever found at a specialty nursery.
