Awesome Hedger!

I am very excited to review this Snapper hedger! It is so awesome.Right out of the box it is ready to go.The battery came fully charged. I just had to slip in the battery and I was all set. Looking at the box, I thought that this would be maybe to heavy for me to handle. But it isn't, in fact it's pretty light. It has a double 24" blade. There is a safety feature which turns out to be awesome. Its a lock out button that you slide into the handle and hold while you squeeze the trigger. If you release either one, the hedger stops immediately. I felt safer knowing it had this feature. Now for the fun part. On the side of the house I have a row of bushes that are only a couple of years old and have never been trimmed. I am so impressed with how easy it was to trim those bushes. The blade is long enough to reach front to back in one swoop. No going over it back and forth. I love that you can easily rotate the trimmer to cut along the sides and front of the bushes. It's a powerful hedger, but it doesn't get away from you. My sons were worried I wouldn't be able to handle it without injuring myself. But the safety features made it completely safe. I was so impressed and happy with it's performance. I started trimming my bougainvillea. Then I went to the back yard and started trimming everything! It cuts through branches up to 3/4" thick. About a hour into cutting, and it was still going strong, never losing power. I can't say enough great things about this hedger. It makes your job go fast.It is so easy to use. When your done, just remove the battery, clean off the blades, and put the blade guard on that comes with it to store safely.

Heavy duty trimming

The Snapper SH60V 60V Hedge Trimmer is much more powerful than anticipated. We have an old electric one that we are replacing and it's nice not to have to deal with a cord. I really didn't expect that a battery operated anything could be that efficient, but it is more than enough for what we are going to use it for and most likely because the battery is heavy and big. That's the only issue I have with it, is the heaviness of the unit. It forces you to use 2 hands, which is probably the way it was designed for maximum safety handling. It comes with a cover for the bladed area, as well as a “2Ah battery and charger”. It charges in a couple of hours and has a 4 light indicator to let you see how much “juice” is in your battery. The lights turn green as they charge up. It has a safety feature, that if your hand slips off the trigger, it will automatically stop. The battery charger lights will turn red if you have over-heated it or if there some other problem when you charged it. It's like the “terminator” of hedge trimmers, (smart and versatile) since you can turn the handle 90 degrees to change direction if you are trimming up and down or sideways. Such a sturdy piece of equipment, I can tell this hedgetrimmer will last us a long time.

A well built, powerful hedge trimmer

When I first took everything out of the box, I have to say that I was impressed by the build quality of this trimmer. Also, the blade looks of high quality and it is very sharp. Be careful not to cut yourself on the blade; there is a protective cover to put over the blade when not in use. As you can see in the picture, the battery is rather large as is the charger. It is rated at 60V, 108Wh, 2Ah. A fully discharged battery can be recharged in just 60 minutes. The battery conveniently has a button to push which turns on indicator lights to let you know the amount of charge remaining. One nice touch is that the handle rotates plus or minus 90 degrees to facilitate vertical trimming. One caveat with battery operated equipment is that you are time limited by the charge of the battery. In my case I have one large shrub and a low hanging hemlock tree that I need to trim, so it isn't a problem for me. If you have a lot of trimming to do, you might want to consider an electric or gas trimmer. I can't tell you how long the battery will last, since it will depend on how heavy the trimming is, and I don't have enough shrubbery to trim in order to exhaust the battery. The unit trims quite well; the sharp heavy duty blades and powerful 60V battery make short work of trimming. Doing a quick search on the Internet, I did not find any other trimmers with batteries rated at 60V; 40V was the highest. The only negative is that with the battery pack installed, the trimmer weight 10.5 pounds. By contrast, my electric trimmer weights 6.2 pounds. If you have to lift the trimmer up to shoulder height because of high shrubs, you may tire from the weight depending on your strength. I really like the fact that I don't have to drag 100+ foot of electric cord in order to use an electric trimmer. I just pop in the battery, and go trim. Overall, this is a great trimmer, and I would highly recommend it.
