The Fired Up! series is, from a commercial standpoint, a brilliant product. Gather the biggest radio hits in the market and -- not just release a compilation, everyone does that -- instead, take the most enticing remixes of each song and package those in one CD. This is the reason why Fired Up! 3 includes newer material, like Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone" (here in the Jason Nevins radio edit) along with older hits like Britney Spears' "Toxic" (the Arman Van Helden radio edit). In other words, this collection isn't for you if you are seeking the original versions. This is definitely your collection if you are looking for high-powered re-mixes, the kind that can work on dance floors, parties and aerobics classes, among others.

As is often the case with remixes, the best ones often complement the original versions. But there are some surprises here, so approach this collection with open ears. Those surprises include mixes of Angie Stone's "Wish I Didn't Miss You" as well as original dance tracks, most notably Motorcycle's "As the Rush Comes" and "Satisfaction" by Benny B Presents The Biz.

Fired Up! 3 kicks off with a big hit, Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone." It's also a safe beginning, as this is one of the less adventuresome remakes in this collection. It's still good, never fear, and Clarkson gets to show off her vocal chops in the introductory bars, set over minimal beats that build to the soaring chorus. More interesting is the Junior Sirius edit of Maroon 5's "This Love," a mix of funk and dance set over syncopated, unpredictable beats.

Another transformation can be heard in Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful," remixed by Peter Rauhofer. While the plaintive melody remains, of course, the quadruple tempo brings the entire track up. Still the pathos is maintained with abrupt mood changes and solos. Clearly, some thought was given to this mix. In a more traditional dance vein is Cabin Crew's "Star to Fall," whose relentless beat and upbeat lyrics bring back disco.

A crunchier sound can be heard in Kevin Lyttle's "Turn Me On." But my favorite here may be the afore mentioned "Satisfaction." A mix of dance and electronica, it superimposes robotic voices over an irresistible pulsing riff.

And satisfaction is what comes to mind when listening to this collection of oh-so-danceable hits.
