I knew the Keurig KOLD Drink maker was coming out in the fall 2015 from advertisements. Looked forward to buying it, as the Keurig brand is trusted in my household. When the holidays came, the drink maker was out so purchased the Keurig KOLD Drink maker as a gift.
Delivery was delayed due to popularity of the item during the holidays. Happily since it was ordered early, was received in time.
Keurig KOLD Drink maker comes in a good-sized box, but is not heavy. Specs read the maker weighs about 24 pounds. I would agree.
Package includes with drink maker, couple of glasses, and instructions.
The Kold maker is BIG. It does take up quite a bit of counter space. This was rather surprising, as it does not look this large in the pictures.
First thing after opening the box - rinse/clean all the washable parts. Mine had dust in it. Then assemble, fill, plug it in and FORGET ABOUT IT FOR ABOUT 2-3 HOURS. If you do not leave the Kold plugged in, always know it is going to that that amount of time to chill before it is ready to make drinks. We unplug ours after dinner and plug in when we make coffee in the morning so it is ready by lunch.
This Kold is like a mini fridge. It will take about 2-3 hours to chill the water to the 39/40 degree water to make the soda. The maker has lights to signal when it is ready to make 8 oz. drinks.
The Kold can make up to six drinks in a row. You can put ice in the water resouver to speed up the chilling - this is called "Party mode". We used filtered water and ice. May be it just us, but we think the drinks taste better. The drink maker does not have a water filter as the K-coffee 2.0 coffee makers do.
The maker is a little noisy when it makes drinks. I compared it the decibels of a vacuum cleaner.
Creates drinks in seconds - so it is fast.
No Co2 cartridges as the Co2 are in the induvial pods. We liked this as we never have to worry about running our or have old cartridges.
The variety of pods is great. We bought one box of every kind of soda, water and tea to try. We went through the pods fast during the holidays. Everyone had his or her favorite drink. So far, all the brands tasted good.
The pods seem to be money saving if you buy in the larger quantities. Unlike bottled soda, we have no waste as we make what is needed. No more flat soda or huge plastic bottles to recycle. Drinks claim to have 100 calories of less. Unlike other soda makers - there are sodas, waters and other drinks that are name brands that consumers are familiar with and enjoy.
While we do enjoy the Keurig brand in general, we are kind of on the fence about this Kold. For the cost of about ~$300, it seems rather spendy. The Kold being a gift compensated for this. It will be interesting to see what improvements or changes will come in models to come if they continue to market the drink maker.
I would not buy a second Keurig KOLD Drink maker for another gift. We are keeping this one. It is fun and a conversation starter.
